Prometheus build-up....Day 1

Ridley Scott's Prometheus

Here is an update on Prometheus' international cume so far:

Fox’s Prometheus is having “a fantastic start” internationally this weekend before it opens in North America next Friday, according to the studio. The scifi film opened head-to-head with Snow Whitein the UK. Today Fox said Prometheus is 319% of the Snow White opening there, and 161% of both Snow White and holdover Men In Black 3. It’s also the biggest opening day for a Ridley Scott film ever in the UK. “We have had a superb start with Prometheus opening a clear No. 1 grossing £2.2m ($3.39M). This includes an estimated £200k ($306K) from special midnight screenings on Thursday.” A high 76% is from 3D, which includes 6.74% from IMAX. Most of the IMAX shows were only playing one evening performance on top of MIB3 because Sony had a 2-week agreement with IMAX digital. The two x70mm IMAX sites (Southbank in London and Manchester) played all day and reported every show including lates were sold out in advance. The foreign cume for Wednesday and Thursday in the eight markets released there was $5.5M. In addition to the UK, countries Turkey, Sweden, Norway, Finland, and Latvia opened Friday. (source)

In anticipation of the release of Ridley Scott's Prometheus this Friday, June 9 and the possibility of seeing it the following weekend, I have decided to watch the entire Alien Anthology Blu-ray collection.  I mean the ENTIRE set, extras and all.  I began last night and already watched a couple of the extras:

Disc 5 - The Beast Within: Making Alien

  1. Star Beast: Developing the Story
  2. The Visualists: Direction and Design
  3. Truckers in Space: Casting
It's amazing some of the information I have learned already about the movie, ie. how the writer, Dan O'Bannon was influenced by John Carpenter's low budget space comedy/sci-fi/thriller Dark Star; how it was originally conceived as a low budget horror film with the hopes that Roger Corman (!) would direct it, and more...awesome.

Alien

I have barely scratched the surface of the making of Alien, and there's still three more movies to go!  No to mention, there are two versions of each of the movies! And, I have less than 14 days to complete my mission.  It's going to be hard, as I have a full time job and a family life.  It may be hard to find the time, but I think I can do it.  I will try to update my blog every day or so on my progress.  I won't update this particular post, but rather create a whole new post each time.
